Kinomap VR is a free app for fitness and health and travel and exploration from Kinomap. It is built for people who train on a stationary bike and want the session to feel like a ride outdoors. It has been on the Meta Horizon Store since November 10, 2021.
What you can do
You pick a route and pedal. The tracks include tourist and cycling routes, most of them filmed in 360 degrees in various countries, and some built in 3D. The app matches your speed through the video to your cadence, and with a compatible smart trainer it can change the resistance to match the route as well.
- Connects over Bluetooth to smart trainers, pedals, cadence sensors and heart rate monitors.
- Speed follows your pedaling, and difficulty can follow the route on supported trainers.
- Some tracks are available to try; after that you buy credits to download the routes you want.
You will need your own stationary bike, and ideally at least a cadence sensor, for the ride to respond to your effort.
Comfort
Meta gives Kinomap VR a moderate comfort rating, meaning it is comfortable for some people. Watching moving footage while your body stays in place on a bike can cause discomfort, so read up on motion sickness in VR and start with short rides. The app is played seated only, and the store lists a gamepad as the input.
