PICO Motion Tracker

Overview

PICO Motion Tracker is PICO's ankle-worn full-body tracker. It launched alongside the PICO 4 Ultra and reached Europe and Asia-Pacific on September 20, 2024, priced at £79 / €89 for a pair. PICO does not sell it, or its headsets, in the United States. The box contains two trackers with sockets and two straps.

Design and battery

Each tracker weighs about 27 g with its socket, not counting the strap or pad. Each unit combines a 9-axis IMU (accelerometer, gyroscope and geomagnetic sensor) with 12 infrared sensors. It sends tracking data at up to 200 Hz over a proprietary 2.4 GHz link. A 220 mAh battery gives more than 25 hours of continuous use and charges over USB-C. With auto-sleep on, PICO says one hour of play a day lasts over three weeks between charges.

Tracking

PICO's multi-modal AI algorithm combines the two ankle trackers with the headset and controllers to estimate 24 skeleton points of the body. PICO quotes about 20 ms latency, an average position error of 5 cm, an angular error as low as 6 degrees, and at least 98% step recognition accuracy. An object tracking mode lets you attach one tracker to an item such as a paddle. PICO also sells a separate PICO Motion Tracker (Waist Version), which only works together with two ankle trackers and improves sitting and lying poses.

Compatibility

PICO lists PICO 4 Ultra, PICO 4 Pro, PICO 4 and PICO Neo3. You pair and calibrate the trackers in the Motion Tracker app on the headset; calibration takes about 5 seconds. With the latest PICO Connect, body tracking data can be passed to SteamVR when you stream PC VR games to the headset. PICO notes that some games may need changes from the developer. The Feet On section of the PICO Store lists more than 20 adapted titles.

Who it is for

It is for PICO 4 Ultra and PICO 4 owners who want leg tracking in social VR, dance and fitness games without extra hardware in the room. Because PICO does not sell in the US, American buyers have no official way to get it.
