A PS VR2 exclusive set in the Horizon world: climb towering cliffs, fight giant machines with a bow and uncover a standalone story as Ryas.
Horizon Call of the Mountain is an action-adventure game developed by Guerrilla and Firesprite and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It launched alongside PlayStation VR2 on February 22, 2023, and remains exclusive to that headset.
Story
The game is set in the world of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, a far-future Earth ruled by animal-like machines. You play Ryas, a disgraced warrior who is offered a chance at redemption. The story stands on its own, so you do not need to have played the other Horizon games, though fans will spot familiar characters and places.
How it plays
- Climbing is the core of exploration: you grab handholds with each hand to scale cliffs, using tools such as climbing axes and a grappling hook.
- Combat centers on a bow: you draw and aim arrows by hand while dodging attacks from large machines, using the PS VR2 Sense controllers' adaptive triggers and haptics.
- Crafting lets you create special arrows and gear.
The game also includes a separate riverboat ride experience, a guided tour of the world suited to newcomers and to showing VR to others.
Comfort
Climbing and heights can be intense for some players. The game includes several comfort and accessibility settings, and it can be played sitting, standing or in room scale, which needs at least 2 x 2 meters of space.
