Arcaxer is an action and adventure game with turn-based role-playing combat, developed by Overrun Games and published by Well Played Studios. It is set inside a sci-fi simulation full of colorful AI characters, and your goal is to reach the top of a structure called The Stack. Arcaxer was released on the Meta Horizon Store on October 13, 2022.
How it plays
The game switches between two views. On the overworld you look down from a third-person, god-like view and move through procedurally generated dungeons, picking up gear and new abilities. Battles then drop you into first person.
Combat is turn based, but it still asks you to move: you physically dodge enemy attacks with your body, and you aim and time your own attacks with gestures. Between runs you can visit a hub world to talk to characters and spend the credits you earned in the dungeons on new items.
You pick one of three classes, and the choice changes which abilities you unlock as you level up:
- Fighter: built around physical attacks.
- Mage: focused on Hax, the game's special abilities.
- Thief: uses wildcard abilities that can swing a fight.
Comfort
Meta gives Arcaxer a moderate comfort rating. It is designed for room-scale play only, so you need some free space to dodge, and it uses controllers.
