Purple Yonder is a small independent studio from the United Kingdom, run by husband-and-wife team James and Kelly Howard. Its debut game is Little Cities, a cozy city builder made for VR.
The project began as a spare-time prototype that James built before Meta's standalone headset launched, and development received support from the UK Games Fund. Meta introduced the pair to nDreams, which signed Little Cities as the first game in its third-party publishing program. James handled the programming and the simulation systems, while Kelly worked on the interface, level design and the role of each building.
Little Cities launched on Meta Quest in May 2022 and received about 18 months of post-launch support, including hand tracking and a sandbox mode. It came to PlayStation VR2 as Little Cities: Bigger! in March 2024, and a mixed reality version, Little Cities: Diorama, made together with nDreams studio Near Light, arrived on Apple Vision Pro through Apple Arcade in December 2024.
