Pimax

Shanghai-based VR hardware maker known for wide field-of-view, high-resolution PC VR headsets such as the Crystal Super and the lightweight Dream Air.

About Pimax

Pimax is a Chinese VR hardware company based in Shanghai, founded in 2015 by Robin Weng. It designs and builds its own headsets, with a focus on PC VR players who want very high resolution and a wide field of view, especially for flight and racing simulation. Its headsets run through its own Pimax Play software, which connects them to SteamVR and OpenXR games on a Windows PC.

Pimax's first product was the Pimax 4K in 2016. In 2017, its Pimax 8K Kickstarter campaign raised about $4.2 million, and the 8K series became known for a field of view of up to 200 degrees. The Crystal line followed with glass aspheric lenses and eye tracking. The Pimax Crystal Super, which started shipping in April 2025, has swappable optical engines with QLED or Sony micro-OLED displays.

In February 2026, Pimax began shipping the Pimax Dream Air, a small PC VR headset that weighs under 170 g and uses Sony micro-OLED panels with pancake lenses. A cheaper Dream Air SE followed. Most Pimax headsets can use the company's own inside-out tracking with included controllers, or SteamVR base stations.
