FLY - A Google Earth Flight Sim is a travel and exploration app from VirZOOM that lets you fly freely over a 3D model of the real world made from Google's 3D map tiles. It also has an educational angle as a way to see places and landmarks up close. It came to the Meta Horizon Store on December 25, 2023.
What you can do
You can fly from street level all the way up to the edge of space, over mountain ranges, cities and landmarks. The store page names the Himalayas, Tokyo and the Eiffel Tower as examples. Features include:
- place search and bookmarks
- dropping into Google Street View
- an adjustable time of day
- unlockable skyboxes
- drone-style Mode 2 controls
- in-app radio stations
Two paid add-ons sit on top of the base price. The AI Concierge acts as a tour guide that understands and answers in any language and can search for places and take you there. The other adds dragon avatars.
Multiplayer
Up to eight people can fly together. The store lists single-player, multiplayer and co-op modes, so you can explore alone or plan a group trip.
Comfort
Meta rates FLY comfortable for most people, and the developer says its flight movement was designed with comfort as the priority. It supports sitting, standing and room-scale play with controllers or hand tracking. If free flight still bothers you, see our guide to motion sickness in VR.
