Weapon Lab is a physics-based shooter sandbox from New World Development focused on building and handling guns. The studio uses it as a preview of the weapon mechanics planned for a game it has not released yet. It is distributed through SideQuest, where it was first listed in March 2022.
How it plays
There is no story or campaign. Instead, Weapon Lab is a sandbox for the parts of VR shooting that many games simplify. You put together your own weapon from parts in a matter of seconds, then load ammunition into magazines by hand rather than pressing a button to reload.
- Assemble custom weapons from components.
- Hand-load rounds into magazines.
- Try out your builds with physics-based handling.
- Share your weapons and times with the developer.
The developer invites players to share their weapons and times, and keeps a how-to-play guide and an update log online for anyone who wants to follow changes between versions.
The developer describes the app as a very early beta that will keep expanding, and is actively asking for detailed feedback through its Discord server or any other channel. Expect rough edges and a limited set of features compared with a finished game.
How to get it and what to know
- Price: free.
- An early beta and a preview of mechanics rather than a complete game.
- Installed from SideQuest; see sideloading on Meta Quest.
- No other stores are listed.
- Supported headsets: Meta Quest headsets such as the Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
- It has eight SideQuest ratings so far, too few for a reliable score.
