Waltz of the Wizard is a single-player VR magic game for Meta Quest where you brew potions, cast spells and talk with Skully, a reactive talking skull.
Waltz of the Wizard is a single-player fantasy adventure from Aldin where you play a wizard experimenting with magic. The developer calls it a Reality Experience: a world where characters talk to you and react in thousands of ways to what you do. It has been on the Meta Horizon Store since December 5, 2019.
How it plays
You start in a magic tower, dropping strange ingredients into a bubbling cauldron with help from Skully, a talking skull who acts as your assistant. Skully has thousands of voiced lines and responds to what you say, where you look and the gestures you make, so you may end up fond of him or fed up with him.
Your spells cover a lot of ground. You can call down fireball storms, bend time, turn objects into frogs and play with natural magic particles. A voice system lets you talk to characters or speak commands that change things in the world, and a Type to Talk option is there if you would rather stay quiet. This hands-on magic simulation carries into later areas, including Skully's memories, the Observer Fortress, and an experiment that straps Skully to wobbly medieval rockets.
Aldin says the game has grown through several free updates since release and offers many hours of play.
Comfort
Meta rates Waltz of the Wizard as comfortable for most people. It supports sitting, standing or room-scale play, and you can use controllers or hand tracking.
