The official GT World Challenge racing sim from Kunos Simulazioni, with GT3 cars, laser-scanned tracks, dynamic weather and ranked online racing, playable in VR on PC.
Assetto Corsa Competizione is a GT racing simulator from Italian studio Kunos Simulazioni, published by 505 Games. It is the official game of the GT World Challenge series. It entered early access on Steam in September 2018, gained VR support in an update that October, and fully launched on May 29, 2019.
How it plays
You race GT cars from makers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren on official circuits recreated with laser scanning, so curbs and track details match the real places. Races cover sprint and endurance formats, including the Spa 24 Hours, with night racing and changing weather.
Single-player offers Career, Championship and Free Play modes, plus Special Events based on real GT World Challenge races. Tutorials, adjustable AI difficulty and stability control help newcomers. Online, a ranking system rates both your pace and your racecraft, and matchmaking pairs you with drivers of similar skill. Paid DLC packs add GT2 and GT4 cars, more tracks and later seasons.
Comfort
You sit in a cockpit while the car moves at high speed, so your eyes see motion your body does not feel. Players who are sensitive to motion sickness should start with short sessions. Steam does not publish a comfort rating.
Platforms and what to know before buying
- VR works only on PC. You need a gaming PC and a PC VR headset; the developer officially supports the Oculus Rift through a dedicated plug-in and the HTC Vive through SteamVR, and says other headsets may work but are not officially supported.
- The base game is $39.99 on Steam, and an Ultimate Edition bundles the DLC.
- Steam lists support for everything from a gamepad to a professional steering wheel, and a keyboard or gamepad is required at minimum.
- The PS5 and Xbox versions do not support VR, so it does not work with PS VR2. On PlayStation, Gran Turismo 7 offers VR racing instead.
- Minimum PC specs on Steam are 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD FX-8120, a GeForce GTX 750 4GB or Radeon RX 460 4GB, and 50 GB of storage. These are for flat-screen play; VR asks more of the graphics card.
- It is rated PEGI 3.
