Overview
VIVE Focus Vision is HTC's all-in-one headset for consumers and businesses. It started shipping on October 18, 2024, and the consumer edition costs $999. It works as a standalone headset, but HTC designed it with PC VR in mind: it streams games over Wi-Fi or connects directly to a graphics card through a DisplayPort cable.
Display and optics
Each eye has a 2448 × 2448 LCD panel. In standalone and streaming use, it runs at 90 Hz. In DisplayPort mode, a beta option allows up to 120 Hz. HTC quotes a field of view of up to 120 degrees through dual-element Fresnel lenses. Eye tracking measures your IPD and adjusts the lenses automatically, within a range of 57 to 72 mm.
Comfort and design
The battery sits at the back of the strap to balance the front of the headset. It is hot-swappable: a small built-in reserve battery keeps the headset running for up to 20 minutes while you change packs, so you can keep playing with spare batteries. Each pack lasts up to about two hours. Third-party spec listings put the weight at about 785 g. Inside is a Snapdragon XR2 with 12 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and a microSD slot for cards up to 2 TB.
Tracking and controllers
Four cameras provide inside-out tracking. Two color passthrough cameras and a depth sensor support mixed reality, and hand tracking is available. Built-in eye tracking with two cameras reports gaze data at 120 Hz. The included controllers are rechargeable over USB-C and last up to 15 hours.
Software and apps
Standalone apps come from HTC's Viveport store. The main draw for many buyers is PC VR. HTC's VIVE streaming software sends SteamVR games over Wi-Fi 6 or 6E. DisplayPort mode, which needs a wired streaming kit sold separately, sends an uncompressed video signal from the graphics card, similar to a traditional tethered PC headset.
Who it is for
Focus Vision suits PC VR players who want a single headset that can switch between uncompressed wired play and wireless streaming. It also suits businesses that need eye tracking, swappable batteries and HTC's enterprise support. People mainly after standalone games will find a bigger library on other stores.
