Sphere Toon - VR Comic is a media and video app from Studio HORANG: a platform for reading comics made for virtual reality. Instead of flipping flat pages, you read stories built to be viewed in the headset. It has been on the Meta Horizon Store since September 10, 2020.
What you can do
You pick a comic from the in-app library and read it in VR. The store lists the following titles:
- Supernatural Girl, Ok-su Station Ghost, Bongcheon-dong Ghost and Ghost in Masung Tunnel, by HORANG.
- Bunker Man, in two parts, by Seongdae Oh.
- Sample, by Sini and Hyuno.
- Like Umbi, by Hyeok Ju Kwon.
Many of the titles are ghost stories, which fits the 12+ age rating. One useful tip from the developer: if you set the in-app language to Korean, more comics become available than in the English or Japanese versions.
The store page does not say whether comics are free or sold separately, how long each one is, or how often new titles arrive.
Comfort
Meta rates Sphere Toon - VR Comic as comfortable for most people. Supported play modes are sitting, standing and room-scale, and it uses controllers. Reading is a stationary activity, so it is a gentle choice for short sessions.
