WebXR

También conocido como WebXR Device API, web VR, WebVR

WebXR is a web standard that lets websites open immersive VR and AR experiences directly in a browser, so you can try content on a headset without installing an app.

WebXR, formally the WebXR Device API, is a set of web standards developed through the W3C. It gives web pages access to a headset's displays and tracking, so a site can show an "Enter VR" button and switch into a fully immersive view. Optional modules add features such as hand input and augmented reality.

How you use it

On a headset, open the built-in browser, visit a WebXR site and select the button to enter VR. There is nothing to install, and the experience can be shared with a simple link. Developers usually build WebXR content with JavaScript libraries such as three.js, Babylon.js or A-Frame.

Where it works

  • The Meta Quest browser supports WebXR on Meta Quest 3 and other Quest headsets.
  • Safari on Apple Vision Pro has supported fully immersive WebXR sessions by default since visionOS 2.
  • Chromium-based browsers on PC can run WebXR with a connected PC VR headset.

Limits

Web apps generally cannot match the performance and polish of native games, and feature support differs between browsers. Still, WebXR is popular for demos, art, education and quick experiments. See the WebXR platform page for more.
