Oculus First Contact is a short official intro experience where you play with toys and a friendly robot to learn the basics of VR on Meta Quest.
Oculus First Contact is a short introductory VR experience, listed as a simulation, developed by Fun Bits Interactive / Oculus and published by Oculus. It was made as an official Oculus showcase for the first Quest headset and has been on the Meta Horizon Store since May 21, 2019. Its goal is to show newcomers what it feels like to be present in a virtual space.
How it plays
You stand in front of a box full of toys with a robot guide for company. The robot becomes your new friend, and you play by handling objects directly: touching, tapping, bouncing, holding and throwing them, and playing games together with the robot. There is no score or campaign; it is a hands-on demo of basic VR interaction.
- A friendly robot guide to interact with.
- Toys that teach basic VR interactions like grabbing and throwing.
- A look inspired by the 1980s, when computers and game consoles first became household items.
- A nod to where the save icon came from, according to the developers.
The store credits Oculus Rex with the design, the same team behind Dreamdeck, Farlands, Prologue and the original Toybox demo, while Fun Bits Interactive handled the port to Quest.
Comfort
Meta rates it comfortable for most people. It is played standing or room-scale with controllers.
