Hyperstacks is a VR platformer with handcrafted combat, parkour and logic levels, character quests and a level editor for building and sharing your own stages.
Hyperstacks is an action and adventure game from Squirrel Bytes that combines shooter combat with parkour, puzzles and creativity tools. Its world is made up of handcrafted challenges, a cast of characters and levels made by the community. It was released on the Meta Horizon Store on March 12, 2021.
How it plays
You work through campaign levels shaped by different characters, each with their own personality and kind of challenge. Between stages you return to a lobby to talk with them, take on quests and unlock new mechanics. Most levels lean on three pillars:
- Combat: VR weapons, hazards and your own fists against melee and ranged enemies
- Parkour: climbing, ziplines, swinging, swimming, grappling hooks, skating and hot lava
- Logic: puzzles and contraptions built with Greenlink, a system for wiring interactions together
The level editor is at the core. Every campaign stage was made with the same grid-based tools players get, which cover enemies, traps, movement mechanics, puzzles, logic, colors and lighting. A growing library of community levels gives you more to play once the campaign is done.
Comfort
Meta rates it intense, so it suits players who already have their VR legs. It supports seated, standing and room-scale play and is played with controllers. Parkour and grappling involve a lot of fast movement, so read up on motion sickness in VR if you are new to it.
