Was du brauchst

  • A Meta Quest headset (Quest 2, 3, 3S or Pro)
  • A Meta account to download games from the Meta Horizon Store
  • An internet connection (most online picks need one to play)
  • A cleared play space, ideally room-scale for some picks

You do not have to spend anything to fill a Meta Quest with games. These eleven free games on the Meta Horizon Store cover social sandboxes, sports, horror, rhythm, a first-time demo and two short stories. This is a curated list built from store data and the developers' own descriptions as listed on 2026-10-30, not from hands-on testing. Free here means a store price of zero: many of these games sell cosmetics, gear or subscriptions inside, and we note it where the listing says so.

How we picked

We took every title in the store's Games category with a price of zero and ranked them by store rating weighted by the number of ratings. We then balanced the top of that list for variety, so it is not eleven versions of the same online lobby game. Most early-access games were left out, but we made an exception for UG and Animal Company, which have far more ratings than anything else in the data while scoring 4.8 or higher. Both are clearly marked. We excluded a free casino game because it is built around simulated gambling, and an early-access crime sandbox built around robbing stores and holding up characters at gunpoint.

Before you start

  • Most of the online games below need an internet connection and put you in lobbies with strangers. If a child or teen uses your headset, set up Family Center supervision first.
  • Several of these games move you with arm-swinging or fast locomotion. Check each comfort rating, and see our tips to reduce motion sickness.
  • Clear a safe play space. Some picks are listed for room-scale play only.
  • If you are completely new to VR, our best VR games for beginners guide is a gentler place to start.

1. Yeeps

Yeeps is a multiplayer sandbox with more than eight official modes, including Hide & Seek, Prop Hunt, PvP arenas and team battles. Building is part of play: you can build tactically during games or make whole worlds in Creative Mode, and wire blocks together to make contraptions or invent your own modes. Gadgets include grappling hooks, sticky bombs and guided missiles.

It made the list as one of the best-rated free games in the data that is not in early access, with about 87,600 ratings. It suits groups of friends and players who like to build as much as play. The store rates it Comfortable for some.

The developer says there is no pay-to-win and that optional gear only supports development.

It is here for its high rating and its focus on skill. It suits soccer players who want to practise tricks and passes. Note that the store rates it Comfortable for few, so it is not ideal for new VR players.

It is here as the free rhythm pick, although it is newer and has far fewer ratings than the games above. It suits players who want a music game without paying. The store rates it Comfortable for few, it is listed for room-scale only, and the developer says it is not intended for children under 13.

Free multiplayer, single-player or something different?

For playing with friends, start with Yeeps, Gym Class or VRFS, or the early-access hits UG and Animal Company. On your own, try Big scary for scares or Beat Bat for music. For a calm first session, run Oculus First Contact, then try Notes on Blindness or We Live Here. If you later buy a paid game and change your mind, see how to request a refund on the Meta Horizon Store.
