Overview

The PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller Charging Station is Sony's official charging dock for the two PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. It launched on February 22, 2023, the same day as the Sony PlayStation VR2 headset, at $49.99 in the US. Sony still lists it at $49.99 on direct.playstation.com. Controllers are not included; the station is meant for the pair that comes with PS VR2.

Design and specs

The station is a white and black tray with a click-in design. You fit a small charging adapter to each controller, then set both controllers into the tray, where the adapters meet the station's connectors. The two charging adapters are interchangeable between the left and right controller, and you can leave them attached while you play. Sony lists the station at approximately 58 x 241 x 136 mm (H x W x D) and approximately 0.4 kg. The model number is CFI-ZSS1. The box contains the station, an AC adapter, an AC power cord, two charging adapters and a user manual.

Charging

The station charges the left and right controller at the same time. Sony says a full charge from an empty battery takes about 1.5 hours, and that controllers charge as quickly as they do when connected to a PS5 console. Power comes from a wall outlet through the supplied AC adapter, so the station does not use any of the console's USB ports. According to Sony's support page, each controller's status indicator slowly blinks white and turns off when charging is complete. Sony advises against using the controllers while they are charging.

Compatibility

The station is designed only for PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. Sony labels it PS5 compatible, and it works with the controllers from any PS VR2 headset. Sony does not list any other controllers as compatible.

Setup and use

Connect the AC power cord to the AC adapter, plug the adapter into the DC IN connector on the station, and only then plug the cord into an electrical outlet. Attach a charging adapter to each controller and press the controllers into the station. To remove a controller, lift it out of the tray. The station can stay on a shelf or desk next to the headset, so the controllers are stored and charged in one place.

Who it is for

The station suits PS VR2 owners who play often and want both controllers charged and ready without running cables to the console. It also helps if your PS5 USB ports are already in use. Because it draws power from a wall outlet and not from the console, it can also be handy for owners who play on a PC with the PS VR2 PC adapter. If you only play now and then, charging the controllers from the PS5 with the USB cable included with PS VR2 does the same job.
