A VR fitness subscription that turns a rowing machine, exercise bike or elliptical, or plain bodyweight moves, into journeys through more than 15 virtual worlds, solo or in multiplayer.
Holofit is a VR fitness app from the Swiss company Holodia that pairs your headset with cardio equipment. It is a different kind of app in the fitness and health category: instead of punching targets, you row, cycle or stride through virtual landscapes. After being used in gyms, it reached the official Quest store in January 2021; on the Meta store it is listed as "Holofit: Make Your Fitness Fun."
What it does
Holofit connects to a rowing machine, exercise bike or elliptical, and your pace on the machine moves you through more than 15 worlds, such as a tropical island, Paris, Antarctica and a cyberpunk city. Bluetooth FTMS machines link directly, other bikes and ellipticals need a cadence sensor, and rowers without Bluetooth can be tracked through the headset's own back-and-forth motion. A Freestyle mode needs no equipment and covers running, rowing, cycling and skiing motions, plus combo workouts that mix in boxing and squats. Guided HIIT, Fat Burn and Cardio programs, daily and monthly challenges, and story-driven events give structure, and new features arrive in monthly updates.
Multiplayer
Online multiplayer lets you train with or race against other members from around the world in real time, as long as you all use the same sport.
Comfort
You glide through the worlds while sitting or standing on a stationary machine, so there is artificial movement on screen, but it follows the pace you set yourself. The Meta store does not show a comfort rating.
Platforms and what to know before buying
- It is free to download on the Meta Horizon Store, but workouts need a subscription: $11.99 a month or $83.99 a year, each with a seven-day free trial. The subscription is managed through your Meta account.
- The latest version runs on the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S. The store notes that Bluetooth connections may not work on some devices.
- It is also listed on the PICO Store at $11.99 a month, but Holodia names only Quest headsets for its latest version, so the PICO build may lag behind.
- For the full experience you need your own rower, bike or elliptical; Freestyle mode works without one.
- It is rated 3+ on the Meta Horizon Store and the PICO Store.
