SideQuest
Belfast-based company behind SideQuest, an independent store for sideloaded and early-access apps on Quest and PICO, and the revived AltspaceVR.
About SideQuest
SideQuest (legal name SideQuestVR Ltd.) is a company based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, founded around 2019 by Shane Harris, who still runs it as CEO. It began as a way to get apps onto Meta Quest headsets that were not in Meta's own store, and grew into an independent catalogue of VR games, demos, mods and early-access projects for standalone headsets.
What it makes
Its main product is the SideQuest platform: a website catalogue at sidequestvr.com, a free open-source desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux that installs APK files on a connected headset, and an in-headset app for browsing and installing content directly in VR. Many listings simply point to the Meta Horizon Store, SteamVR or other official stores, while others are only available through SideQuest.
The company also runs the social VR app Banter and, in 2026, acquired the rights to the AltspaceVR name to rebuild Microsoft's closed social platform under SideQuest. See our news on the AltspaceVR relaunch.
