The company behind SKYBOX VR Video Player, a paid local media player for Meta Quest, SteamVR headsets and Apple Vision Pro that plays and streams your own video files.
Source Technology is the company behind SKYBOX VR Video Player, a paid media player for watching your own videos in VR. On Steam it is credited as the publisher, with Skybox Studio named as the developer. On the Meta Horizon Store it is listed as both developer and publisher, and on the visionOS App Store the app is sold by Source Technology Co., Ltd. under the name SKYBOX Media Player.
What it makes
SKYBOX plays video files stored on a headset or PC and streams them over a home network from DLNA/UPnP media servers and shared folders. It detects flat 2D, 3D side-by-side and over-under, 180-degree and 360-degree formats automatically, and the company offers a free Windows client for streaming files and the PC screen to the headset.
The player arrived on Steam in October 2017 and on the Quest store on May 21, 2019, the day the original Quest launched. Today it sells for $9.99 on each of its three stores. The company does not publish details such as its headquarters or founding date on its store pages.
