Snap Inc.

The Santa Monica company behind Snapchat and its Lenses, which also builds Snap OS and the Specs standalone AR glasses.

About Snap

Snap Inc. is a US technology company based in Santa Monica, California. It grew out of Snapchat, the messaging app that Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy launched in 2011, and took the name Snap Inc. in 2016. Snapchat's camera Lenses made it one of the largest augmented reality platforms, and developers build Lenses with Snap's free Lens Studio software.

AR glasses

Snap has made camera glasses under the Spectacles name since 2016. Later generations added see-through displays, and the fifth-generation Spectacles of 2024 were offered to developers as standalone AR glasses running Snap OS.

In June 2026, Snap announced Specs, its first AR glasses for consumers, at $2,195. They run Snap OS without a phone, puck or tether, use hand tracking and voice for control, and are due to ship in the US, the UK and France in fall 2026.
