Ocean Rift is an underwater safari app for Meta Quest where you swim through 14 habitats with dolphins, sharks, whales and prehistoric animals.
Ocean Rift is a travel and exploration app from developer Llyr ap Cenydd, published by Picselica Ltd, that works like a safari park under the sea. You swim among marine life, from dolphins and sharks to whales and even animals from prehistoric times. It came to the Meta Horizon Store on May 21, 2019.
What you can do
There are 14 habitats to explore, and you can swim around each one freely. You move with motion controls or with hand gestures if you prefer to put the controllers down. Besides the big species, the developer lists turtles, sea snakes, rays, manatees and sea lions among the animals you can meet.
- An education mode with more than 40 narrated information points about the animals.
- A mixed reality mode that places virtual windows on your walls, so your room looks out into an aquarium.
- Several aquarium settings to choose from, such as a beluga whale tank and a great white shark tank.
It suits families and anyone curious about sea life, since there is no combat or score, just exploring and learning at your own pace.
Comfort
Meta rates it as comfortable for most people. It supports sitting, standing and room-scale play and works with controllers or hand tracking. Swimming means moving freely through the water, so newcomers may want to read our guide to comfort settings first.
