A free-to-start 3D design tool for sketching, modeling and reviewing products at full scale in VR, with shared Rooms for collaboration and paid plans for teams.
Gravity Sketch is a 3D design app for VR headsets made by London-based Gravity Sketch Limited. It is aimed at product, footwear and vehicle designers but is free for anyone to start with, and it sits firmly in the creativity and productivity category. It has been on Steam since August 15, 2017, and is also on the Meta Horizon Store for Quest.
What it does
You draw strokes, build surfaces and shape solid geometry in the space around you, then walk around the result and check it at real size. Designers use it to sketch early ideas, test proportions and ergonomics at 1:1 scale and compare designs against engineering data. Brands such as Adidas, New Balance, Ford and Nissan are among the companies the developer names as users.
The free plan includes the sketching, surfacing and geometry tools, unlimited OBJ and STL imports, OBJ and USDZ exports and 150 MB of cloud storage. The paid Plus plan unlocks every tool and file format and more storage, while Team and Enterprise plans add larger rooms, admin features and security options at custom prices. You can also work in passthrough, so the design floats in your real room.
Collaboration
Shared Rooms let people review and edit a design together in real time or leave notes for later. The free plan allows up to three people per Room, Plus up to five and Team ten or more. A companion iPad app is also available.
Comfort
There is no fast artificial movement like in a game; you mostly move, rotate and scale your work with your hands. Neither store shows a comfort rating.
