Scared by Squares enters Steam Early Access with PC VR

Scared by Squares launches in Steam Early Access with optional VR and four-player co-op. Siege Industries released its horror game on November 3, 2026, for standard monitor play and PC-connected VR.

The game supports solo play and online co-op for up to four players. Players can enter alone or bring up to three friends into its cube-based setting.

Cube-based horror and anomaly hunting

Scared by Squares presents the Cube as a maze of strange rooms. Its central idea is to create fear without ghosts, zombies, creepy dolls or other familiar horror tropes, using simple cubes and shapes instead.

The objective is to identify corrupted shapes and cleanse them with a focused flashlight while dealing with threats roaming inside the Cube. The gameplay combines memory and pattern puzzles, anomaly hunting, platforming challenges, boss encounters, flashlight cleansing and combat.

The current Early Access release contains two playable floors. Each floor is expected to take around 25 to 30 minutes, putting the available content at roughly 50 to 60 minutes. Completed levels have leaderboards for players who want to replay them and pursue faster times.

Monitor play and PC-connected VR

VR is optional. The Steam listing supports standard monitor play, Oculus Rift, and Meta Quest headsets connected through Link with Oculus Touch controllers. Standing and room-scale VR are supported, while the listed Quest option requires a PC connection rather than standalone headset play.

The published minimum PC requirements include 64-bit Windows 10, 8 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290, and 5 GB of available storage.

A free demo is available on Steam. The supplied information does not specify whether that demo supports VR or online co-op.

Early Access limits and pricing

Siege Industries describes the release as unfinished. Content, balance, performance, controller support and polish remain in development, and players may encounter bugs. The developer plans to add more floors, puzzles and story elements during Early Access, but those plans can change.

Scared by Squares costs €10.25 on Steam. An introductory 15% discount reduces the price to €8.71 until November 17.

MIXED reported on November 5, 2026, that the game had launched with its monitor and VR modes, two current floors, solo play and online co-op. The official Steam description frames Scared by Squares as an experiment in making a simple cube frightening.
