HandyGames
German game developer in Giebelstadt, founded in 2000 and owned by THQ Nordic since 2018, whose VR work includes the medieval city builder Townsmen VR.
HandyGames is a German game developer based in Giebelstadt, near Würzburg. It was founded in 2000 by brothers Christopher and Markus Kassulke together with Udo Bausewein, and began by making games for mobile phones before expanding to PC, consoles and VR.
THQ Nordic acquired the company in 2018, making it part of the Embracer Group. Its best-known VR game is Townsmen VR, a hands-on version of the studio's Townsmen city-building series. It entered early access on Steam in 2018, launched in full in March 2022, and later arrived on PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest. Earlier VR experiments included Hidden Temple – VR Adventure.
In August 2026, THQ Nordic renamed the publishing side of the business THQ Nordic Mobile and gave it a new focus on bringing premium PC and console games to phones. The development team in Giebelstadt carries on as HandyGames Studios, making original games and supporting those mobile ports, with the Kassulke brothers still leading development and publishing.
