Seattle VR studio founded in 2016 by former Disney producers, maker of the battle royale POPULATION: ONE, and part of Meta since 2021.
BigBox VR is a VR game studio in Seattle, founded in 2016 by Chia Chin Lee and Gabe Brown. Both were executive producers at Disney, where they worked on the Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance. Lee had earlier led teams at Sony.
The studio's main game is POPULATION: ONE, a squad-based battle royale shooter released in October 2020 on Quest, Rift and Steam. Its vertical combat system lets players climb any surface, glide across the map and build cover. The game went free-to-play on Quest in March 2023 and added Sandbox, a tool for player-made maps and modes.
Facebook, now Meta, bought BigBox VR in June 2021, and the team joined Oculus Studios. The studio continued to run POPULATION: ONE through Meta's 2026 Reality Labs cuts, which closed several other Meta-owned VR studios.
