Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! is an asymmetric local and online party game developed by Resolution Games. Released in August 2019 for Meta Quest and SteamVR, it turns a single VR headset into a living-room multiplayer party by pitting one VR player against up to eight friends playing on free iOS and Android companion apps.
How it plays
The player wearing the VR headset embodies a giant, ancient protector tree guarding a stash of golden acorns at the center of the forest glade. Meanwhile, two to eight other players join the room code on their smartphones or tablets as a band of rebellious squirrels trying to steal the acorns and carry them back to their base. The VR tree player grabs and hurls sap bombs, boulders, and wooden logs with their hands to knock out the squirrels before the timer expires.
Four Distinct Squirrel Classes
- Zip (The Speedster): Light and nimble, capable of sprinting across open clearings to snatch acorns before the tree can aim.
- Chunk (The Tank): Carries a deployable shield that absorbs direct projectile hits while escorting teammates.
- Doug (The Tunnel Digger): Digs underground burrows that allow the entire squirrel team to bypass the tree's line of sight.
- Sim (The Builder): Constructs vertical ramps and launch pads so squirrels can leap over obstacles and ambush from above.
Multiplayer and Party Setup
Only the VR player needs to purchase the game ($19.99); everyone else downloads the free Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! mobile app on iPhone, iPad, or Android and enters the four-letter room code. It works both on the same couch at holiday gatherings and remotely over Discord or video calls.

Because the VR player stands or sits in one fixed spot rotating to defend the glade, Acron is rated "Comfortable" with zero artificial movement, making it safe for first-time VR guests of all ages.
What to know before buying
Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! requires at least two mobile players alongside the VR headset player (2–9 players total). It is sold on the Meta Horizon Store, SteamVR, and PICO Store.
