House of the Dead Reawakened: Sega's 630 kg VR Cabinet

House of the Dead Reawakened is Sega Amusements International's two-player VR attraction, built into a gothic manor cabinet for arcades. Sega published its full specification on October 28, ahead of its first showing at IAAPA Expo in Orlando from November 17-20.

The cabinet will appear on stands S4602 and S4803. Attractions Magazine first reported Sega's teaser on September 30, then added an editor's note the following day because the Sega product page it cited no longer displayed technical details. The page now carries the full spec sheet.

Cabinet and headset specifications

  • Headset: DPVR's E4C, a PC-tethered headset with rotation-only tracking, or 3DoF. DPVR launched it for arcades in October 2023. Its listed specifications include a 3664 x 1920 fast-LCD panel running at up to 90Hz, Fresnel lenses, a 116-degree field of view and a weight of 465 g.
  • Queue displays: an 85-inch screen forms the manor's front door. Two vertical 43-inch screens serve as shuttered windows, allowing people waiting to see what players are fighting.
  • Game technology: the attraction uses Unreal Engine 5. It includes three missions, solo and co-op play, guns with haptic recoil and 2.1-channel audio for each player.
  • Clock tower: VR.org News reports that Sega's cabinet includes a working clock tower. Sega also lists the feature on its product and news pages.
  • Operator features: controllers calibrate magnetically, so staff do not need to reset them between players. The steel-armoured headset cable harness was developed with DPVR, load-tested to 130 kg (286 lb) and supplied with a 12-month warranty.

Update (2026-11-01): VR.org News reports that Sega's cabinet includes a working clock tower, which Sega also lists on its product and news pages.

Sega made cable durability a specific focus. Nigel Allison, its manufacturing and R&D director, said that, among operators' complaints about VR hardware, “cable damage topped the list.”

Size, power and shipping

Assembled, the House of the Dead Reawakened cabinet measures 270 cm wide, 145 cm deep and 280 cm tall. That is 106 x 57 x 110 inches. It weighs 630 kg (1,389 lb) and draws 2,000 W.

Power requirements are 9.1 A on 220 V or 18.2 A on 110 V. Three units fit in a 20-foot shipping container, while seven fit in a 40-foot container. Sega's photos show two players standing at gun stations in the cabinet's front corners, with headset cables descending from above. Sega describes the attraction as attendant-free.

Price and availability

Sega has not announced a price or a ship date. Justin Burke, Sega Amusements International's COO, said operators who previewed the game had been asking “when production starts and how many units can be shipped.”

The House of the Dead series has been in arcades since 1997, according to Sega, and turns 30 next year. Operators who want to try the cabinet before Sega confirms its price or shipping details will need to visit the company's IAAPA stands in Orlando.
