We Live Here is a free interactive VR story about Rockey, a homeless woman, told through animated memories hidden in her belongings.
We Live Here is a free interactive narrative adventure from Alfrobel Inc., published by Oculus. It follows Rockey, a woman living in a tent in a park, on the day police and sanitation crews arrive to clear out the homeless people sheltering there. It was released on the Meta Horizon Store on December 7, 2020.
How it plays
Rockey has to run and cannot save her things. You explore what she leaves behind, and each object opens a piece of her past through animation:
- Her journal plays an animated poem about the first homeless man she ever saw, when she was ten.
- A small wooden box holds her photos.
- Winding up a music box lets you hear her dream of having a home once more.
- A small motorcycle cut-out starts a psychedelic sequence about her wedding, held on a motorcycle on the way to Sturges.
- A novel from her childhood reveals her final wish: to be a cowboy.
It is a short documentary-style piece about homelessness built around memory and loss, rather than a game with goals or a score. The objects you pick up are the whole interaction, so it is easy to follow even for people who rarely use VR.
Comfort
Meta rates We Live Here as comfortable for most people. It is listed for room-scale play only and uses controllers, so give yourself a little space to move around and reach for objects.
