The Climb 2 is a rope-free climbing game for Meta Quest where you scale mountains, caves and city skyscrapers and race friends on leaderboards.
The Climb 2 is a free-solo climbing simulation from Crytek. You scale cliffs, caves and buildings without ropes, choosing your own route as you go. It reached the Meta Horizon Store on March 4, 2021.
How it plays
You climb by reaching out and gripping holds with your hands, working out a path toward the top one move at a time. The sequel adds a city setting next to its natural environments, and the developer puts a lot of weight on the views you get on the way up. Routes are not fixed, so part of the challenge is spotting a better line than the obvious one.
- Mountain peaks and large cave systems to work through.
- Urban maps where you climb up the outside of skyscrapers.
- Hidden shortcuts tucked into each route.
- Leaderboards and asynchronous multiplayer modes, where you compete against friends' results rather than playing live together.
The store lists The Climb 2 as a single-user game, so the competition happens through scores rather than shared sessions. It also still supports the original Meta Quest.
Comfort
Meta rates The Climb 2 as moderate. Height is the whole point of the game, so players who dislike looking down should go in prepared, and anyone prone to motion sickness in VR may want shorter sessions at first. It supports seated and standing play with controllers.
