Star Chart

Star Chart is an astronomy app in the travel and exploration category from Escapist Games Ltd / Future Tech Labs Ltd, published by Escapist Games Ltd. It turns the solar system into a space you can move through: fly between planets, check what the sky above you looks like right now, and pick up whole worlds to study them. It has been on the Meta Horizon Store since August 22, 2019.

What you can do

The app covers everything from the Sun out to Pluto. You can look down on the planets from far above, drift close to the rings of Uranus or orbit moons of Saturn, and get a sense of how huge the distances between objects really are. The sky view also shows that the stars forming a familiar constellation are often nowhere near each other.

• A real-time simulation of the night sky, including constellations and meteor showers.
• A 3D solar system you can explore freely.
• A guided orrery tour of the planets and their orbits.
• "Moments in Time" scenes: stand where the Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon, follow the Curiosity rover on Mars, look out of the Cupola on the ISS and visit the New Horizons probe.
• Planets, moons, asteroids and stars you can hold in your hand for a closer look.

Star Chart is a single-user app, so it works best as a self-paced trip or a learning tool rather than a shared experience.

Comfort

Meta rates Star Chart as comfortable for most people. It supports sitting, standing and room-scale play and uses Touch controllers, so you can explore the sky from a chair.
