Co-op Shooter Exoshock Enters Early Access on Quest 3 and PC VR for $19.99

PolarityOne's co-op sci-fi shooter Exoshock is out now in early access on Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S and on PC VR through Steam, priced at $19.99, according to UploadVR and Road to VR. The game supports one to four players, and flat-screen PC players can join VR squads through full cross-play.

What's in the early access build

Exoshock is a PvE shooter with a gritty dystopian setting, built around squad tactics and customizable loadouts. Road to VR reports that the launch build includes three starship maps, which the studio describes as some of the largest maps built for VR, along with semi-procedural objectives, six Resistance levels and "Contract Complications" meant to add replay value. Missions have squads board starships in transit, sabotage systems, steal data and eliminate targets.

The Meta Horizon Store listing names PolarityOne as developer and VRAL Games as publisher, and shows an October 29 release date. On PC, the game runs through SteamVR and can also be played without a headset.

The roadmap

According to Road to VR, PolarityOne expects early access to last around 12 months. Planned additions include a "Weapons 2.0" overhaul, expanded character development, better VR embodiment, new environments and enemy factions, deeper combat systems, more cooperative objectives, expanded progression, and improved audio and world-building.

The launch follows a long public testing phase that included a paid Founders Edition build and an open beta. In an earlier hands-on, UploadVR called it "one of the most exciting shooters VR has seen in a long time."

What it means for players

Exoshock is one of the few VR co-op shooters that lets PC players without a headset fill out a squad, which can help a new multiplayer game keep its lobbies busy. At $19.99 it is priced below most full VR releases, but early access buyers should expect weapons, progression and content to change substantially over the next year.
