Qué necesitas

  • Meta Quest headset with the latest software
  • Phone with the Meta Horizon app, a computer with a web browser, or a Chromecast-enabled TV
  • Headset and receiving device on the same Wi-Fi network and band
  • The same Meta account on the headset and the receiving device
  • For cable mirroring: Quest 3 and a USB-C or DisplayPort display (HDMI needs an active adapter)

Casting shows what you see inside your Meta Quest on another screen, so people in the room can follow along. You can cast to a phone, a computer or a TV with Chromecast, and a Quest 3 can also mirror to a monitor over a cable. This guide follows Meta's casting instructions, its casting troubleshooting page and its article on casting over a cable.

Which headsets this covers

Wireless casting is part of the Quest software, so the steps below apply to Quest 3, Quest 3S, Quest Pro and Quest 2. Mirroring to a display over a cable is supported only on Quest 3.

Before you start

  • Put the headset and the device you want to cast to on the same Wi-Fi network. If your router has more than one band, put both devices on the same band.
  • Sign in to the same Meta account on the headset and on the receiving device (the Meta Horizon app or the browser page).
  • For a phone, turn on Bluetooth.

Cast to your phone with the Meta Horizon app

  1. Turn on your headset.
  2. On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app and tap the menu icon.
  3. Tap Devices and select your headset.
  4. Tap Cast. The headset view appears on your phone.

You can also start from the headset: press the Meta button on the right controller to open the Navigator, select Quick controls, select Cast, choose Mobile, then select Next and follow the instructions.

To stop, tap the casting display on your phone, tap the X and select Stop casting. Closing the Meta Horizon app or opening a different app on the phone also stops casting.

Cast to a computer browser

  1. On your computer, go to oculus.com/casting and log in with the same Meta account you use on the headset. When Meta introduced browser casting, it named Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge as the browsers to use.
  2. In the headset, press the Meta button to open the Navigator and select Quick controls.
  3. Select Cast, then choose Web.
  4. Select Next and follow the on-screen instructions. Your view appears in the browser tab.

If you use the Meta Horizon Link app on a Windows PC, the headset can also cast to that app. Meta says Link must be set up on the PC, and the PC must be on and connected to the same network as the headset.

To stop any cast from the headset, open the Navigator, select Quick controls, then Cast and Stop casting.

Cast to a TV or Chromecast device

  1. Check that your TV supports Chromecast, either built in or through a Chromecast device, and that Chromecast is turned on in the TV's settings.
  2. Make sure the TV and headset are on the same network and the same Wi-Fi band.
  3. In the headset, open the Navigator, select Quick controls, then Cast.
  4. Choose your TV from the list of nearby devices, select Next and follow the instructions.

Meta notes that smart TVs with built-in Chromecast may work, but it does not guarantee every model. If your TV does not appear, casting to a computer that is connected to the TV is an alternative.

Mirror a Quest 3 to a monitor over a cable

A Quest 3 can mirror to an external display with no setup. Connect the headset to the display and turn both on, and mirroring starts by itself. The display shows both immersive apps and passthrough.

  • Meta lists tested connections such as USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to DisplayPort. How stable the picture is depends on the cable and adapters you use.
  • For HDMI, Meta says you need an active DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter or cable.
  • The picture is limited to 1920 x 1080 at 60 frames per second and shows the left eye's view.
  • Sound does not play through the display, and copy-protected (DRM) content does not appear.

What to do if casting fails

  1. Check the network. Confirm that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and the same band. For Chromecast, Meta recommends 5 GHz or 6 GHz over 2.4 GHz.
  2. Check the account. The Meta Horizon app or the oculus.com/casting page must be signed in to the same account as the headset.
  3. Restart everything. Restart the headset, the phone or tablet, and the device you are casting to.
  4. Update. Check both the headset and the receiving device for software updates.
  5. Restart your router if casting still fails.
  6. Try another network. Some mesh networks, and corporate, certificate-based or guest networks, block casting. Meta names hotel, airport and some phone tethering networks as examples.
  7. For Chromecast, check that the Chromecast device's date and time are correct.
  8. Stop recording. Casting and recording at the same time can cause problems.

Casting can also use more battery and lower performance in some apps, so charge the headset before a long session.

Preguntas y respuestas

Can I cast my Quest to a TV without Chromecast?

Meta's wireless TV casting is for Chromecast-enabled devices. A Quest 3 can instead mirror to a display over a USB-C or DisplayPort cable, or to HDMI through an active DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter.

Why doesn't my phone or computer show up when I try to cast?

Check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and band and signed in to the same Meta account. Guest, corporate, hotel and some mesh networks can block casting.

Which browser should I use to cast to a computer?

Open oculus.com/casting and sign in. When Meta launched browser casting, it named Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Why is there no sound when I mirror a Quest 3 over a cable?

Meta says audio output is not supported when mirroring to an external display over a cable.

Does casting affect the headset?

Meta notes that casting can increase battery use and reduce performance in some apps, and that casting while recording can cause problems.
