An asymmetric party game where a VR player becomes a giant octopus boss fighting a team of PC and mobile hunters inside a retro 1980s shopping mall.
OctoRaid VR is a cross-platform action party game from TeamBLENS. One player in VR becomes Octo, a giant octopus monster, and fights a team of Hunters playing on PC or mobile. It is distributed through SideQuest, where it was first listed in May 2020.
How it plays
Matches take place in OctoMall, an American shopping mall in 1980s style with neon signs, a retro look and partly flooded floors. As Octo, your arms are huge tentacles that you control with the VR controllers:
- Tentacle stretch: hold the trigger to extend a tentacle where you point, with a laser guide showing its reach.
- Tentacle Move: grab a neon column (it turns green when in reach) and pull the opposite way to move your body across the map.
- Tentacle Throw: pick up props and throw them for explosive damage, or grab a Hunter and toss them into the water to deal damage over time.
Octo wins by using up the Hunter team's ten shared lives. Hunters win by bringing Octo's health to zero, mainly by firing soda cans at its head.
Multiplayer
Every match is an asymmetric player-versus-player fight. Hunters play with mouse and keyboard on Windows or on Android, and work together as a team: they collect soda to keep their soda guns firing, use a grappling hook to get around and respawn as long as team lives remain. Their weapons vary by platform, from miniguns to shotguns and grenade launchers.
