Backrooms By SideQuest is an exploration horror adventure from SideQuestVR Ltd, based on the Backrooms creepypasta. You wander a huge network of empty, unsettling spaces with no clear objective and no obvious way out, while something seems to be watching. It was released on the Meta Horizon Store on July 31, 2025.
How it plays
The developer says the game spans more than 300,000 square meters of liminal space across many levels. Each level has its own layout, mood and hazards, and the areas are handcrafted to play with your sense of space.
- Flickering office corridors
- Damp, moldy maintenance shafts
- Eerie playgrounds
- Decaying hotel hallways
The longer you stay, the further down you go. This store version is single-player. The developer says you can unlock more by joining Banter, its social VR platform, which adds multiplayer, voice chat, new areas, updates, custom avatars and social features at no cost with a SideQuest account.
Comfort
Meta gives it a moderate comfort rating, so it will not suit everyone. You can play seated, standing or room-scale, with controllers.
