Air Brigade Prototype Test Flight is a flight simulation prototype from Brandon Smith (Onionman77). It is a simple sandbox for flying military aircraft over open terrain, aimed at players who just want to take to the air on their Quest. It is distributed through SideQuest, where it was first listed in December 2019.
How it plays
You pick an aircraft and a setting, then fly. No missions are described; the point is the flight itself, over procedurally generated terrain that keeps going in every direction.
- Aircraft: F-35, A-10 and A-29 from the start, the F/A-18 added in version 0.3 and the YF-23 in version 0.3.5
- Settings: badlands, islands or an icy landscape
- Controls for flaps and air brakes, added in version 0.3.2
The flight model is built on the Silantro Flight Simulator toolkit. According to the developer, version 0.2 overhauled it to fly more smoothly and realistically than the first release.
Comfort
SideQuest rates comfort as intense. Free flight involves fast turns and rolls, so if you are prone to motion sickness in VR, take it slowly at first.
How to get it and what to know
- It is free.
- It is installed from SideQuest by sideloading; see our guide to sideloading on Meta Quest.
- It is also available on itch.io.
- Supported headsets: Meta Quest headsets such as the Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
- It is an early access prototype rather than a finished game.
- Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 38 SideQuest users.
