IDFA DocLab 2026
IDFA DocLab, the immersive and interactive programme of the Amsterdam documentary festival, marks its 20th edition from November 12 to 22, 2026. Its free exhibition and VR Gallery are at De Brakke Grond.

IDFA DocLab is the new media programme of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). It presents interactive, immersive and emerging forms of documentary. The 39th IDFA runs from November 12 to 22, 2026, and this is DocLab's 20th edition, under the theme Shared Realities.
The central hub is De Brakke Grond (Nes 45). From November 13 to 22 it hosts:
- The DocLab Exhibition: more than twenty installations, VR works and games. Entry is free, but online reservation is required. It is open 11:30 to 20:30 from November 13 to 21, and 11:30 to 18:00 on November 22.
- The DocLab VR Gallery: ticketed 50-minute slots with a headset and a selection of VR films. There is also one free walk-in seat and the shared VR experience Shifting Connections by Tungyen Chou.
- DocLab playrooms with artists and prototypes on November 14, 16 and 17
The IDFA DocLab Competition for Immersive Non-Fiction has ten titles spanning VR, live performance, fulldome and multisensory work. They include Being in You, Hello You, The Invisible Woman VR, Uprooted and POLYMORF's Microbiome Restaurant. A separate competition covers digital storytelling. Other DocLab works are shown at the ARTIS-Planetarium, @droog, Dutch National Opera's Studio Boekman, Casa Rosso and the ENTR VR Museum. ENTR shows Darren Emerson's VR documentary In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats.
Tickets: the exhibition is free with a reservation, and the VR Gallery and partner venues use regular IDFA tickets, sold through the IDFA festival website.
