PlaneVR is a learning and education app from IAG XR for practicing flight procedures in a virtual cockpit. Rather than a full flight simulator, it focuses on checklists, cockpit flows and how aircraft systems are operated. It came to the Meta Horizon Store on October 25, 2022 and is still in early access.
What you can do
The cockpit is a Bristell Classic light aircraft. You work its switches, levers and instruments with your own hands through hand tracking, so repeating a procedure builds the kind of muscle memory you use in a real plane. The developer pitches it as practice you can do whenever you like, without booking an aircraft or simulator time.
What the store page lists as available now:
- hand-tracked cockpit controls
- practice of checklists, systems and emergency or non-normal procedures
- sign-in with your Meta account and reworked menus
IAG XR aims it at three groups: student pilots who want practice between lessons, licensed pilots refreshing their flows, and instructors or flight schools that want consistent training. More aircraft, airfields and paid add-ons are described as future plans, so judge it on what is in the app today.
Comfort
Meta rates PlaneVR comfortable for most people. It supports sitting, standing and room-scale use, with hand tracking or controllers. Sitting down matches a real cockpit and makes the reach to each switch feel natural.
