Quest Emulator PC VR: Venture’s Account Checks and Risks

Quest emulator PC VR project Venture runs Meta Quest games on PC VR headsets, including titles without native PC releases. Road to VR reports that the open-source project can run Quest exclusives, while its GitHub page describes Venture as "a Meta Quest emulator for PC VR." Its first public release, v0.1.0, appeared on October 28.

How Venture runs Quest games

Players install Venture and sign in with the Meta account that owns their games. Venture downloads those games from the account’s Meta Horizon Store library. After that, users press Play to run them locally.

Each game runs as a normal PC process on the computer’s GPU. Venture sends headset output through OpenXR, so the project is intended to work with any OpenXR-compatible PC VR headset.

  • Graphics use OpenGL ES through ANGLE, Google’s open-source graphics translation layer.
  • Older games built on Oculus’s legacy VrApi run without changes, including 32-bit ARM titles.
  • Games can be imported from a Quest in developer mode or from an APK.
  • An option adds installed games to SteamVR and the Steam library.
  • Venture is free under the GPL-3.0 license, with builds for Windows and Linux.

Update (2026-11-01): VR.org News reports that Venture’s 0.1.0.3 release followed version 0.1.0 by ten hours. The outlet says Venture opens Meta’s own login page at auth.meta.com and stores an access token locally, encrypted with DPAPI on Windows or in the system keyring on Linux.

VR.org News also reports that Venture checks Meta account ownership before downloads and during gameplay. It has no offline success cache and does not support App Sharing. Its Import page accepts APK, ZIP or game folders without account or ownership checks.

The report says Venture labels its Meta API traffic with the user agent “Venture/0.3 native” and the sign-in parameter “utm_source=venture”. By Thursday morning Pacific, the Windows installer had been downloaded a little over 500 times.

Tested games and performance claims

Venture’s compatibility list, last updated October 28, marks all 25 tested games as rendering without major errors on both Windows and Linux. The list includes Quest exclusives such as Asgard’s Wrath 2, Batman: Arkham Shadow, Resident Evil 4, Marvel’s Deadpool VR and the Vader Immortal series.

The developers note that a compatibility check does not require a full playthrough. They also claim Venture is faster than similar tools. Their test used an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K and an Nvidia RTX 5090, rendering at 2,800 × 2,856 per eye.

Road to VR names Android XR Bridge and Refract as similar projects that appeared about a month earlier. The available compatibility result describes games rendering without major errors; it does not establish that every listed title is fully playable from start to finish.

Account, security and policy risks

Road to VR’s Scott Hayden does not recommend downloading Venture yet. He identifies three concerns: the software could damage a PC setup, it may break Meta’s terms of service, and signing in with a personal Meta account could expose that account.

There is no guarantee Meta will not ban accounts used this way. A ban could put a player’s purchased library at risk. Road to VR’s report includes no comment from Meta, and anyone trying Venture does so at their own risk.
