Air Drums

Air Drums is a small drumming simulation from developer Caleb Geizer, published by LostError Studios. The developer describes it as a free game and a way to play drums without disturbing the neighbors. It was released on the Meta Horizon Store on April 19, 2023.

How it plays

You start in a retro 1970s garage floating in space, with virtual drumsticks attached to your hands. There are no tutorials or instructions: you simply hit the kit and see what it does. The drums are physics-based, and the developer says the environment is meant to feel like a real garage band setup.

• Play the kit with hand tracking, no controllers needed.
• Open your hand to trigger the hi-hat and the kick drum, one gesture per hand.
• For extra realism you can hold real drumsticks while you play.

The developer is upfront that hand tracking is not precise enough for playing along to songs. Instead, Air Drums is meant for short sessions of banging around and having fun, rather than as a rhythm game with note charts or scoring. Think of it as a toy drum kit you can pick up for a few minutes.

Comfort

Meta rates Air Drums as comfortable for most people. It supports standing and room-scale play and works with hand tracking only, so put your controllers down before you launch it.
