Noun Town Language Learning is a learning and education and productivity app from SUPER HYPER MEGA. It teaches vocabulary through a game world: as you learn and use new words, you gradually restore color to a gray town, and the goal is to finish with enough confidence to speak the language out loud. It came to the Meta Horizon Store on December 1, 2022.

What you can do

Noun Town covers more than 1,000 words and phrases. You can study Spanish, French, German, Italian, Greek, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese or English, and you can play in full VR, in mixed reality in your own room, or switch between the two.

• Speaking practice: 16 non-player characters respond through speech recognition, so you rehearse real conversations without the pressure of a live partner.
• Mini-games: short games reinforce the words you have picked up.
• Automatic revision: a review system brings back earlier words so they stick.
• Daily goals and streaks: targets and streak counters to keep you coming back.

The developer describes its approach as award-winning and aimed at keeping learners from stalling at beginner level.

Comfort

Meta rates Noun Town Language Learning as comfortable for most people. Supported play modes are sitting, standing and room-scale, and it uses controllers. Most of the activity is talking and pointing at objects rather than moving around, so it is a calm experience for a language app.
