Maloka is a fitness and health app for mindfulness from developer PlayMaloka, with Unity listed as publisher. You get your own island, and guided sessions help you relax and focus while the island develops around you. It has been on the Meta Horizon Store since December 14, 2021.
What you can do
Sessions include breathwork, body scans and sound baths. The developer says its visuals are designed to encourage low beta and theta brain waves to help you reach a state of flow. As you keep practicing, your island fills with plants, sculptures and other items, and a personal Spirit companion grows with you, starting out cute and curious and becoming calm and confident.
- More than 100 guided experiences.
- Guidance from teachers such as Sharon Salzberg, Max Lowenstein and Liza Kindred, plus partners like The Big Quiet.
- A companion mobile app you can pair with the Quest version so you can keep practicing away from the headset.
The developer argues that VR makes it easier to stay focused and present because sight and sound are fully taken over, which it sees as making mindfulness practice more effective.
Comfort
Meta rates it as comfortable for most people. It supports sitting, standing and room-scale play and uses controllers, with no hand tracking listed. Seated play is supported, which suits meditation.
